Popa Wu: Wu-Tang Clan "Turned Out Bigger Than The Beatles"

Popa Wu says "they loved us 'cause of what we were saying."

Sitting down with ForbezDVDPromo, Wu-Tang Clan mentor and affiliate Popa Wu shared his thoughts on the impact of the group throughout the 1990s.

“You can’t go through me nor around me to get to my brother,” he said, apparently speaking to the strength of the group dynamic. “That’s how we always was and the media—as you get bigger and bigger, I watched us go from children that had nothing and took nothing to make something and turned out bigger than  The Beatles.

“We got attacked like that sometimes,” he added. “I didn’t even know what was going on ‘cause I was just the road manager and I’m scared to death. I’d jump under the table. It was real like that. But I didn’t know people loved it like that. And they loved us ‘cause of what we were saying. It was different than what anybody else was saying. We was telling them the truth through our music to all the youth in the street. We was giving them knowledge of themselves...Knowledge means to know and look, listen, and deserve. You have to deserve the things that you around. We in the Universe man and this is hell. It was prefixed for us. It was ordained for you to come through a womb and go through hell first before you could see heaven. But it wasn’t above your head nor was hell below your feet. You put these things there. Heaven is not above your head nor hell below your feet. Heaven and hell is within. Heaven is what you make it and hell is what you got to go through. But most of the time you put yourself through hell. So you got to learn what you put yourself through to come out right. [Ol'] Dirty put himself through everything he did and he came out. He came out. He came out and we are still in.”

Popa Wu is the father of other Wu-Tang Clan affiliate ShaCronz and Free Murda and a member of the Five Percent Nation. Earlier this year he spoke about the still-developing story of the making of the group's forthcoming A Better Tomorrow.  “It’s here already,” the Wu-Tang Clan mentor said in January. "It’s just that it’s got to be closed up by Rae[kwon]. Rae’s the only one that’s got to close up. Everybody did what they did…They even got the treatments for videos and all that shit. RZA's ahead of his game right now. It’s just that Raekwon’s just compromising…you know how a person gets…when you’re a person that never had nothing and then when you get something and then it's [taken] away from you, it’s hard to adjust back.”

RZA Says Wu-Tang Clan's "A Better Tomorrow" Budget Can't Accommodate Raekwon's Demands

RZA reveals that he hasn't recorded with Raekwon in seven years, says Method Man has recorded nine "A Better Tomorrow" verses pro bono.

Earlier this month, RZA explained to Vlad TV that he had recently spoken to fellow Wu-Tang Clan rapper Raekwon who went on to submit his requests for the group’s upcoming album, A Better Tomorrow. RZA didn’t share any details about Raekwon’s requests at that time, but did shed some light on Rae’s demands during an interview on Sway's Universe this week.

He says that the amount of money Raekwon requested for his work on A Better Tomorrow is an amount that can’t be provided, given the budget for the album. RZA added that although Raekwon’s demands aren’t unreasonable, it can’t fit into a budget that’s meant to compensate an entire conglomerate of rappers.

“His demands are not unreasonable as who he is and the value of what he brings to any industry,” RZA said. “But being that Wu-Tang is a conglomerate, a big conglomerate of 10 to 12 people, those demands can’t be met...And we in a situation right now where the budget can’t really sustain what he’s demanding. And for that to be equal across the board. And not even equal, even if we was to say ‘Well, he gets a percentage more than him or a percentage more than him.’ What he’s demanding is so—takes so much weight on the budget that the record can’t be done…If I’m about to do 30 sessions, that’s what 600 grand? The budget can’t sustain that. It can’t afford me to do that because we’re in a time of our industry where we not walking in getting two, three, four million dollar budgets no more.”

RZA added that he has received offers of up to a million dollars to fund A Better Tomorrow and revealed that Method Man has provided nine verses for the album pro-bono with the hopes of working finances out upon completion of the project.

“There’s been offers of a million dollars to do the album. That’s a reasonable offer. But when you got nine emcees and studio costs and producing costs it's more like a just a wash,” the Wu-Tang rapper said.

In addition to providing an update on A Better Tomorrow and Raekwon’s demands, RZA also spoke on emcee mastery. He revealed that he wrote his first lyric at the age of nine and reached emcee mastery 10 years later.

“When I was an emcee, right? I think I reached emcee mastery at the age of 19,” he said. “And the reason why is because I wrote my first lyric around the age of nine. You know what I’m saying? And I was repeating other people’s lyrics at the age of seven and eight. Then finally at age nine I wrote my first lyric. So, 10 years later—which they say whatever you’re doing it takes 10 years to master. Watch a kung fu movie, ‘It’ll take you 10 years to master this style.’ So, by the age of 19 I became a master emcee I would say. And that led to producing and all the other things that became Hip Hop.”
During his conversation with Vlad TV this month, RZA informed those watching that if Raekwon’s demands are unable to be met then they would have to reevaluate their plan for A Better Tomorrow.

“But then we did speak a few days ago,” he said. “About six, seven days ago. And he gave me his demands. Which we presented to the company. Like ‘Yo, this is his demands.’ If they can be reached they can be reached. It they can’t they can’t. And if they can’t then we gotta reevaluate what we’re gonna do.”

RZA Reveals Favorite Producers, Favorite ODB Line During Reddit AMA

RZA hoping to release a Wu-Tang Clan movie one day, says Earl Sweatshirt is "a great talent."

Wu-Tang Clan rapper RZA rapper answered questions from fans during a Reddit AMA session yesterday (April 23). He kicked off the conversation with a paragraph about himself and detailed his work with both Wu-Tang and as a film composer, as well as his jump into acting nearly a decade ago.
The rapper/composer recalled jumping into music with merely a dream and then going on to work with artists like Kanye West and The Notorious B.I.G. before wetting his feet as a composer.
“I started off as a hiphop artist with a dream,” RZA said. “Later, formed the world-famous Wu-Tang clan. After selling over 20 million records, I began to produce other artists, from BIG to Mary J., to Kanye… In 1999, I scored my first motion picture, Ghost Dog, which led me to become a composer. I later did music for Kill Bill, Blade: Trinity, and Afro Samurai to name a few. Working in film music led to me being discovered by movie executive Harvey Weinstein, who put me in a film named Derailed. That spawned an acting career, of which I have been nurturing for the past 10 years.”
During Reddit’s AMA session, RZA shared his hopes of one day creating a Wu-Tang Clan movie, an idea one Reddit user suggested could be funded through Kickstarter.

“Yes, actually. Although making movies is very difficult and it's hard to get green lights, I'm going to keep pushing though,” he said. “And maybe one day, it will see the light…Never thought of using Kickstarter. Hmm.”

RZA even revealed the details of his studio setup when asked a handful of production questions from another Reddit user.

“Well, that's a lot, but: not being egotistic about this, but I have a dozen set ups,” the Wu-Tang spitter said. “And my home studio I use different rooms for setups. So one room is just turntables and a sampler, another would be just keyboards, another will be a digital room, there's one room where everything is analog (live drums, guitars, etc). As a composer, you always need different sounds, so after working with Hans Zimmer, I've learned to use different rooms to write different things or different scenes.”

Below are a handful of select quotes from RZA's AMA.

On Touring With Rage Against The Machine: “That was one of the highlights of my career. At the time, Wu-Tang had the #1 album in the country, and we began playing some of the biggest venues that we had to that date. One of my best memories is when Zack broke his leg on tour, and needed a little energy during the New Jersey show, and I came out and rocked the stage with him. The rest of the Wu went home. :(“

Thoughts On Earl Sweatshirt: “Yeah, we got zoned out that night. He's a cool cat. And I think he will be a great talent in hiphop.”

Rescuing Inspectah Deck From A Cop In Atlanta: “Here's a story, it may not be funny depending on your point of view, but one time the whole Clan was in Atlanta, and I guess we caused some kind of riot in the building, and thus the police was brought in to end the show. I remember everybody getting away from the cops without any violence, but one cop had got a grab of Inspector Deck and he couldn't get free. When we noticed it, me and Method Man rushed back over to help, but actually, what could we do? We can't hit a cop, could we? That would not have been wise. Instead, Method Man grabbed onto Inspector Deck's arm, and combined his strength with Inspector Deck, which allowed them to get away from the cop, they broke his grip and we all ran. I later told Meth ‘That was some Wu-Tang Kung fu shit right there.’”

Favorite ODB Line: “For ODB ‘I be the answer to your why, the tear to your cry.’ It's off a song he did with Killer Priest.’

Favorite Producers: “Pete Rock, Dr. Dre, Kanye West.”

On Making Wu-Tang Forever A Double Album: “Actually, a double-album was part creative, and part business. If i can recall, we hadn't done an album as Wu-Tang Clan for four years. And so we wanted to give Steve Rifkin an abundant amount of material. But also we demanded a budget so high that to appease it, they said ‘how about a double album?’”

The Influence Of Comic Books: “From the age of 9-16, I probably collected thousands of comics. But they all got stolen one day, along with my vinyl collection. And I'm telling you, I used to spend my paper route money on this stuff. I'm still a comic fan. Every once in a while, if I'm in a certain city and they have a comic book store, I will go and pick up a few copies. I love how the new artists are doing the new covers, Grant Morrison's take on classic heroes has always been cool to me, and I actually bought every copy of Reginald Hudlin's new take on the Black Panther.”

RZA Gives Raekwon 30-Day Deadline on New Wu-Tang Clan Album, Says It May Not Come Out at All

Album tentatively due in July...if it happens

RZA recently addressed Raekwon's "strike" from the upcoming Wu-Tang Clan album A Better Tomorrow, saying, "We need him there. I want him there." It was also revealed that the two men recently spoke, and Raekwon gave his demands.

Now, in an interview with Sports Illustrated (via MTV), RZA has given a firm deadline for when they'll decide whether or not Rae will be featured on the album. If he's not involved, they'll decide if A Better Tomorrow will be released at all.
"The album is slated to come out in July," he said. "If we don't come to terms [with Raekwon], I think, within the next 30 days, then this will either be an album without Raekwon or an album that never sees the light of day. And that's a very strong potential."
"I would not want to put out a Wu-Tang album without every live member available," he said. "At the same time, I don't want the fans not to have this incredible music that we've been workin' on for the last year. So that's gonna be a tough decision, but we've got about 30 days to make that decision and come to that conclusion."
In his recent Rolling Stone interview, Raekwon was asked to rank, on a scale of 1-10, the chances of him appearing on A Better Tomorrow. "We at a two right now," he said. "It’s like climbing up a fuckin' mountain if you got on slippers. "

RZA: Raekwon Has List Of Demands For Wu-Tang Clan's "A Better Tomorrow"

RZA sends a message to his fellow Wu-Tang Clan members, says they should stop taking what the media reports for face value.

During an appearance on Hot 97, Wu-Tang Clan rapper RZA made it clear that lack of communication is one of the factors that has contributed to fellow Wu-Tang spitter Raekwon being absent in the creation of the group’s next studio album as well as the back-and-forth that has taken place between the two artists over the past few weeks.
When Hot 97 personality Ebro Darden spoke on clashing with his co-workers for the greater good, RZA revealed that it’s a similar situation between himself and Raekwon, only they aren’t able to interact on a daily or even weekly basis.
“We can call it arguing or we can call it building. But also sometimes—You guys may get a chance to come together every day or every week and communicate and work it out,” RZA said. “What we’re not doing though as brothers and as business brothers is [putting] time together. So, I gotta read about how he feels. He gotta read about how I feel…I try to make myself as available as I can. I will not deny I’m a busy man. I can’t deny that.”

RZA spoke further on his situation with Rae and informed listeners that an interview that was published by Rolling Stone  may have created a misunderstanding between the two. He also added that he has spoken to Raekwon recently and received a list of demands they’re currently working on.

“I wanna clear one thing up on the Raekwon thing because the newest article in Rolling Stone, Raekwon says that I’m a bold-face liar, right? Which I’m far from,” RZA said. “I don’t need to lie. Okay, I’m a grown man…But what happened was I did an interview a few weeks ago that just came out later. And I guess when it came out he read it then, but I spoke to Raekwon about eight days ago. But the interview was probably 14 or 16 days ago. So, he says in his interview ‘RZA’s a liar. He spoke to me.’ No, when I did the interview brother I didn’t speak [to you]. I hadn’t spoken to him in six months before that. Until recently. Last time I saw that brother was on tour in the summer. So, we didn’t get a chance to chop up the ideas of what I’m trying to do.

“But then we did speak a few days ago,” he added. “About six, seven days ago. And he gave me his demands. Which we presented to the company. Like ‘Yo, this is his demands.’ If they can be reached they can be reached. It they can’t they can’t. And if they can’t then we gotta reevaluate what we’re gonna do. But it was no lying there. And the only thing I would say is that I would respect if—like when I read something that Rae say I don’t really take it as if he said it cause he didn’t say it to me. I don’t know what these writers write…So, I wanted to say to all our Wu brothers that we should never take this press and media on face value. We can easily reach out to each other and get the facts. Don’t read the facts. Hear it right from the source.”

During an interview with Grantland last year, RZA revealed that Raekwon had been the most inactive when it concerned putting in studio time for Wu-Tang Clan’s upcoming album, A Better Tomorrow. In the time since that interview, both RZA and Raekwon have remained vocal about the project and their contributions to it, or lack of.
Most recently, RZA cited creative differences as one possible reason why Raekwon hasn’t lent his assistance for A Better Tomorrow.
“Raekwon has not been participating with that particular record,” the rapper said during an interview with Vlad TV published this month. “I haven’t had a chance to really talk to him about why not. All I see is the press going back and forth. But I would say that maybe creatively we on different paths. I’m creatively different than I was in the ‘90s.”

UPDATE Christbearer used steak knife to cut off genitalia while on drugs, source says

More shocking and gruesome details surrounding Andre Johnson have been revealed.
E! News has exclusively learned from a source close to the situation that the rapper affiliated with Wu-Tang Clan had been under the influence of the drug PCP (otherwise known as Phencyclidine or Angel Dust) when he jumped off the second story of a building.

The source also tells us that Johnson used a serrated steak knife to cut off his penis before jumping, adding that the rapper, who goes by the name Christ Bearer, cut off the tip of his penis first, then removed his testicles and the remainder of his genitalia.

When police arrived, Johnson was on the balcony, according to the insider. Authorities asked Johnson to come down and talk to them. He said "OK" and jumped off the balcony. Police found the remains of his penis upstairs.

The incident happened Wednesday morning in North Hollywood. The 40-year-old was found lying on the sidewalk with critical injuries and was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is still currently being treated at the hospital.

The rapper was affiliated with Northstar, a group which was signed to Wu-Tang productions 10 years ago, according to Heathcliff Berru, the group's representative.
Berru added, "What Christ Bearer did was unfathomable. I feel for his family at this time."

RZA Addresses Wu-Tang Killa Bees Member Who Severed Penis In Apparent Suicide Attempt

RZA calls the Christ Bearer news "a tragic story" and says "it's sad that it's Wu-Tang affiliated."

Days after Wu-Tang Killa Bees member Andre Johnson, who also goes by Christ Bearer, cut off his penis and jumped off a second-story North Hollywood, California apartment balcony in an apparent suicide, RZA has addressed the news story.
"Christ Bearer is a tragic story because it’s still the same situation: a guy we gave a chance to,” RZA says in an interview with XXL. “If I remember that deal back in the day, I remember they signed for, like, $150,000, a record deal from some young guys from Long Beach, Cali. He had a partner named Meko. I liked those guys. I liked what they stood for, young guys trying. I can’t wait to really hear the whole story. It’s sad that it’s Wu-Tang affiliated. It’s like dirty press in a way. I want to know what the fuck moved him to do those things."

Johnson, who is reportedly in stable condition following the apparent suicide attempt, has been calling RZA after recently being released from prison, according to the Wu-Tang Clan emcee-producer. The two worked together years ago. As reported on April 16, the Wu-Tang Killa Bees The Swarm album was released in 1998. Six years later, the Bobby Digital presents : Northstar album was released via KOCH Records. Nevertheless, RZA, who also goes by Bobby Digital, says they are not making music together these days. Despite this, RZA calls the news story "incredible." "That shit sound mythical," he adds.

Beyond this, RZA also details how this incident may impact others in Johnson's life.
"I feel sad for his family," RZA says. "I know he has children...I thought he was a smarter guy than a guy who would do something crazy like that. But at the same time, he been in jail recently, he’s been in trouble. Maybe he’s mentally unstable. Maybe the mental health system should have took a look at him and said, ‘You know what? We got to hold on to this guy for a little longer.’ Because it’s not any sanity; even if you high, this shit don’t sound sane. This sounds more than high. It sound like mental problems or something that was bothering this man’s mind, and he needed help. It’s sad. I send my respect out to his family."

Fans Start Kickstarter Campaign To Crowd-Source Wu-Tang Clan's "Once Upon A Time In Shaolin"

"I can't imagine RZA being upset if enough Wu-Tang fans get together and raise enough money to purchase [the album]," Russell Meyer says.

According to an article published today on DNAinfo, two Wu-Tang Clan fans have joined forces and initiated a Kickstarter campaign  with hopes of crowd-sourcing the purchase of the group’s upcoming one copy album. As reported per HiphopDX last month, the group revealed plans to release a project called  The Wu - Once upon a time in Shaolin with an unprecedented method of distribution according to Wu-Tang producer RZA.
“We’re about to put out a piece of art like nobody else has done in the history of [modern] music,” he said. “We’re making a single-sale collector’s item. This is like somebody having the scepter of an Egyptian king.”

As per DNAinfo, Wu-Tang fans Russell Meyer and Calin Okoth-Obbo have established their Kickstarter campaign with a $5,000,000 goal in hopes of securing the highest bid for the release. That number was presumably chosen as a function of recent claims by RZA regarding the private offers the group had been made.
"Offers came in at $2 million, somebody offered $5 million yesterday,” RZA told Billboard earlier this month. "I've been getting a lot of e-mails—some from people I know, some from people I don't know, and they're also e-mailing other members of my organization.”
Once Upon A Time In Shaolin is reportedly slated to feature 31 songs and clock in at 128 minutes in length. With production handled primarily by previous collaborator Tarik “Cilvaringz” Azzougarh, RZA detailed plans to charge fans for the privilege of a one-time listen while touring the work at festivals, galleries, and museums. “The idea that music is art has been something we advocated for years,” RZA said. “And yet its doesn’t receive the same treatment as art in the sense of the value of what it is, especially nowadays when it’s been devalued and diminished to almost the point that it has to be given away.”
Meyer’s and Okoth-Obbo’s Kickstarter campaign claims that neither will profit if the goal is reached. “As the founder of this group I pledge to not keep a single penny of the money raised,” the page says. “Every cent will be bid to win the album. If we don't get it then everyone gets their money back.”

Detailing the motivation behind the campaign, the page also details plans to provide the album for fans free of charge if successful. “For all the fans who won't be able to pay 30-50 bucks to listen to a double album in one sitting, let's raise enough money to buy this album and then turn around and give it away for free,” they write. “Wu members can still get their CREAM and the rest of us get to enjoy an epic album instead of some uber rich bastard keeping it to himself like a collector's item.”
In an interview with DNAinfo, Meyer explained feeling like the group might appreciate the gesture. “I can’t imagine RZA being upset if enough Wu-Tang fans get together and raise enough money to purchase [the album],” he said. “We don’t want some guy in Dubai who literally has money to burn to buy it as a collector item that only six people will get to listen to.”
“We're all for changing times,” he added. “But when you make the content exclusive and only able to be accessed by a select few, the fans suffer and it's an elitist stance that doesn't really jive with hip-hop culture.”

Speaking on the possibility that the campaign is successful, Okoth-Obbo revealed not having a plan in place with regard to the preservation of the original copy itself.
“We could rock-paper-scissors to see who gets to hold it,” Okoth-Obbo said. “Or we could do a vote or raffle of all backers to see who keeps it. It’s not about ownership, it’s about getting it out there. We’d rather just get the musical content and be able to share that with the people who want to be able to appreciate it.”

In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX earlier this month, RZA defended the group's approach and market-dictated price. “As far as the value of it, the value could go from wherever,” RZA said. “It may be worth $20 million. It may be worth $100 million. Who knows? That’s the value that a person puts upon it. That’s what art is about. When you see a piece of art, somebody goes, ‘What is that? It’s just a painting of a woman.’ Yeah, but that painting of that woman is worth $100 million based on the person that appreciates it to his heart like that and based on how the world is gonna view it. That’s important to me.”

Raekwon On RZA: Wu-Tang Clan "Being Compromised By His So-Called 'Logic'"

Raekwon also says he hates the Wu-Tang Clan song "Keep Watch." Regarding RZA's claims the two didn't speak about Wu-Tang Clan's "A Better Tomorrow," Raekwon says, "Saying he didn't speak to me is a bold-faced lie."

Raekwon says that he agrees with RZA’s recent assessment that the two are not in accord regarding the Wu-Tang Clan’s forthcoming A Better Tomorrow album.

“We are at creative differences because at the end of the day, I want to win,” Raekwon says in an interview with Rolling Stone. "I’m used to being a winner. Being that I feel the team is being compromised by his so-called ‘logic' of making music, I have a problem with that because I love my fans. I would never want to give my fans anything other than the best. So when we’re sitting there discussing the creative process of making a great album for the fans, I’m not going to never settle for less. I’m not the only one [in the group] that feels this way too.”

Raekwon says one example of their differences is the Wu-Tang Clan song “Keep Watch." "I hate it,” Raekwon says. "I hate it. I don’t hate shit, but I hate that fuckin’ record. It ain’t the gunpowder that my brothers are spitting. It’s the production. And I ain’t shitting on the producer because he’s one of our soldiers. But if it ain’t where it need to be… It’s 20 years later. We talkin 'bout a whole new generation is sitting here representin' and making fiery shit and you telling me that we comin out with some mediocre shit? That ain’t part of our plan.”

Raekwon On Wu-Tang Clan: "I Am On Strike"

Given his problems, Raekwon says that he has to look at himself from a different perspective. "It’s the same as being an athlete,” he says. "I don’t give a fuck if it’s Kobe Bryant or Kevin Durant. They will not touch the floor if their managers or lawyers are saying, 'Listen, shit ain’t right.' So therefore, I’m in a limbo situation. So yeah, you’re right. I am on strike. It ain’t the fact that I don’t want to be there. Because of course I want to be there. But if we’re there, we gotta do the best everything. We gotta work 10 times harder, because that’s what I’m signing in for. I’m not about listening to somebody that’s not an artist telling me what the fuck they think is hot.

"As far as the RZA, I respect him,” he continues. "I love him – the love ain’t gonna go anywhere – but you’re not in the music world no more. So to me, you need to take a backseat and respect the niggas that is playing the game. I’m always out in the field and finding out what’s going on with the new

RZA said in an interview published this week that Raekwon was not involved in A Better Tomorrow.

"Raekwon has not been participating with that particular record,” RZA said. "I haven’t had a chance to really talk to him about why not. All I see is the press going back and forth. But I would say that maybe creatively we on different paths. I’m creatively different than I was in the ‘90s.” In the Rolling Stone article, Raekwon disputes RZA’s statements. "I don’t know why he said he didn’t speak to me, because he did speak to me,” Raekwon says. "We spoke about two weeks ago. It was me, him, his brother and business partner Devine and we talked about why I’m not there right now. They know where I’m at and at the end of the day, him saying he didn’t speak to me is a bold-faced lie."

Christbearer (Northstar) Suicide Attempt

Wu-Tang-Affiliated Rapper Cuts Off His Penis in Suicide Attempt

A rapper affiliated with Wu-Tang Clan was rushed to the hospital early Wednesday after he cut off his penis and then jumped off a second story balcony in what police believe is a suicide attempt ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ. Our sources say ... they were called to an apartment building in North Hollywood at around 1:00 AM and found Andre Johnson on the sidewalk critically injured. Johnson was rushed by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  It's unclear if doctor's are attempting to reattach Johnson's penis. Johnson is a rapper who was in a group founded by members of Wu-Tang Clan.

The rapper who cut his penis off and jumped off his balcony is Christ Bearer -- aka Andre Johnson --  a member of the rap group Northstar.  Members of the group who also live in the apartment building tell TMZ ... they were there early this morning when Christ Bearer suddenly -- without warning -- cut his penis off and jumped off the balcony.  They say they were not on "any hard drugs that would cause him to do such a thing."They add it all happened in a matter of seconds.  But by the time they raced downstairs, Christ Bearer was already up and running around screaming incoherently.

REUPLOAD: Dungeon Masta has been in the music industry for over 15 years. In this day and age he is a rarity due to the fact that he can create his own music. Not only is he determined and persistent, but is very creative and has the talent to recognize abilities in others as well as himself. Having the sensitivity to approach a song by ear has given him a unique point of view into the Industry. Having worked with several artist over the years, in the studio, on video sets, performances and in rap battles, such as Special Ed, Positive K, Public Enemy, O.D.B.(Dirt McGirt), Popa Wu, Buddha Monk, and other various artist, has lead to him expanding his abilities to not only be a an artist but a producer. Performing regionally on the East Coast of the United States has brought him into the limelight for media as well as underground. Being born in rough streets of Brooklyn, NY he has learned to use his trials and tribulations to guide him. Having worked thus, for his love of music has given him the skills and training to survive. Putting to use his multiple talents has lead him to be one of the originators of a group from Upstate NY called Da Kindred aka Morbid Legacy, plus a group out of Atlantic City, NJ named L.T.Z. (Loonie Tunz) that has branched out into other various groups. His versatility has a unique position in this Industry, with a style that he would rather call gothic, he was forced to create a new chamber in the Wu-Tang Dynasty called Da Forbidden Chamber. This Chamber which was brought forth from the 10th Chamber (Freedom or Death) is one of the deadliest forms of hip hop yet to hit the streets. Project Oblivion is a collection of some of the rarest, deadliest musik known to mankind. Production is mainly by Dungeon Masta himself, but he is also aided by Buddha Monk, Alkatrax, Hooks Da Funkbenda, & Mr. TibbsSpecial guests include Buddha Monk, The Bklyn Zu Fam, Black, Papa Chief, Grime, I-Born, GCP, & Redz.

RZA Says He's Unsure About Purchaser Rights For "The Wu - Once Upon a Time in Shaolin"

RZA on the potential Wu-Tang Clan album: "This can change the idea and the venue of music. This is still a flower that's unfolding."

Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, the very limited edition (1 copy created) album created by Wu-Tang Clan has been fielding offers from both investors and fans.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Wu producer RZAtalked about the offers he's been receiving for the album and says he's gotten one for as high as $5 million. "Offers came in at $2 million, somebody offered $5 million yesterday, and they're also emailing other members of my organization," RZA said when asked about the offers he's been giving to date. "So far, $5 million is the biggest number. I don't know how to measure it, but it gives us an idea that what we're doing is being understood by some. And there are some good peers of mine also, who are very high-ranking in the film business and the music business, sending me a lot of good will. It's been real positive."

While that portion of the interview was previously reported, additional comments were released Friday (April 4) by Billboard. When asked about what exactly the purchaser of the album would receive along with it, RZA himself wasn't completely sure. The legal rights to the album is still something that is being discussed.

"We're trying to put it under the same definition as a work of art, and when you buy art from a gallery it becomes your property, right? I'm not 100 percent educated on the deeper ramifications of art, but in theory, I would think that it's like when you bought a picture, it's your picture," he said. "I know there's other stipulations that's gonna pop up, but we understand this is a piece of art, so we should accept the terms of that.

"That right there is delicate. But [when] people are emailing me, 'I'll give you $5 million,' I'm not personally gonna make that sale -- I'm not an art gallery. So I think the best thing is to go into that world and let it take its proper course. And then if somebody was to buy it and say 'I'm gonna resell it,' I don't see where there's a problem with that, in all reality. But we're still doing research on it." Finally, when asked about whether Once Upon a Time in Shaolin was a business model or a statement, RZA says that it's both and that the idea is "a flower that's unfolding."

"Both! It's definitely a business model," he said. "This can change the idea and the venue of music. This is still a flower that's unfolding -- there's still more layers that have to blossom -- and this is only part one. It's a three-tiered idea, and I think you'll appreciate each one, especially since you calculate what's going on in this business. [The music industry has considered] changing how you measure gold and platinum -- [the definition could be based on] what it generates. So I think this is gonna be a whole different model." about the multimillion-dollar project. Produced largely by Morocco-based producer Tarik “Cilvaringz” Azzougarh, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin is claimed to be as “rare as the Mona Lisa” by RZA and that “It belongs in an art setting, venue, a museum, or a gallery."

RZA also elaborated on the album's release and how it may or may not impact Wu-Tang Clan's other potential album, A Better Tomorrow. “This idea to release [Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin] was since September [2013], he says. “And then we rediscussed it in December. I made the decision January 20. I made the decision on how I was going to deal with this particular piece of art. Then I made the announcement a few months later. It has nothing to do with A Better Tomorrow. I let everybody know in the office that works on A Better Tomorrow—the staff and everybody—that I’m gonna do something different. I wouldn’t tell nobody what it was.
