REUP: For all of you who enjoyed Moongod’s production work with Ringz and the Moonlight crew some twenty years ago, there’s a bit of good news right here.  the past decade Moongod had been focusing on founding the first MC bachelor's degree worldwide for the Herman Brood Academy, sharing his experience and teaching Holland’s aspiring MC’s and producers the tricks of the trade. Lately he has been slowly returning producing, mainly for the Dutch hip hop scene but we were also happy to notice he revisited his Wu related history, teaming up with Raekwon in a Paris’ studio, helping Cilvaringz on his upcoming Wu (fam) album and scheduling studio time with Ghostface while Toney was touring Europe last week.

Those interested in any production coming from Moon will be glad to hear that he is releasing EP with Dutch rapper Sticks “Bukowski”, evidently named after the legendary author. The EP was recorded in an coincidental three day jam and recording session, has 9 new tracks and is an ode to (old skool) hip-hop .

REUP: Icewater presents Hanz On...for those that don't remember Icewater was that crew that Raekwon introduced on one of his albums and helped them drop an album in 2007, which really wasn't that good. Now they are bringing emcee Hanz On to the forefront. I don't remember him being actual part of the crew, but he just might be a new member. His real claim to fame is the fact that he is the one who clocked Joe Budden when the Wu and Joey had their little beef going on. So we know he can fight (or sucker punch? depending on who you ask), but how are his rap skills? Because that is all that matters when it comes down to the music. At first I was just happy to hear that Hanz On wasn't a godawful rapper, who they just gave a shot in the studio because everbody was scared of him. His flow is actually rather decent, but he isn't really standing out. When he gets joined by some guests, it's easy to get mistaken to who you are actually listening too. The subjectmatter is pretty much what you'd expect from your modern day New York street rap album. People get robbed, shot, stomped in the ground and that kind of stuff. You'd better show you are the toughest fucker on the block. There are some tracks like 'Too Late To Change' and 'Poverty' where Hanz tries to flip the script with some heartfelt lyrics, but it just comes of as a weak attempt at sounding deep. I thought his track for the ladies with 'Tonight' felt even more awkward. Hanz On isn't really all that awful, but he is just a run-of-the-mill emcee. The same can be said about the beats on this effort. This is exactly what you would expect from a New York street rap album. The beats are not wack or anything, it's just that they are pretty damn generic. He uses quite a lot of producers for 14 tracks, but no one is going to stand out. I actually wonder where he found them. Kinoi, Enza, Fury, Dready? I don't know them. I do know Icewater Productions and (I think) DJ Symphony, but I'm not impressed at all. There just isn't a whole lot I'm feeling. I hated the beat for 'Knuckle Up' and I thought the sample for 'Poverty' has been flipped better in the past (by the RZA even). The latter being a bit of reoccuring theme. Hell, RZA (again) already flipped the sample on 'Hanz vs GOD' on that joint he did with MF DOOM. Something about this album just seems they rushed it. It isn't just the quality of the beats themselves. It's also the quality of the audio. On some tracks the volumes of different emcees are all over the place and to add insult to injury, I don't think the tracklisting on the back is entirely correct. Perhaps there was not a lot of budget for this release or maybe they did rush this out of the gates. If it's the latter they should have done it about a year ago and really that Joe Budden thing to the death (not literally of course). If the Icewater album was your shit or you really love every little thing that is even remotely Wu-affilated, you might wanna check this. Otherwise it's just best to kick Hanz back into the kitchen.

REUP: Like most, my first introduction to Hell Razah came in the form of Sonz of Man's The Last Shall Be First. Those that have known me over the years, would tell you, that there has probably been no artist in that time frame that I've followed more closely. In 2010, Razah, fell into a coma due to a brain aneurysm. Shortly after, his transformation into Heaven Razah was released in the form of a Self Titled album. The name change and overall feel of the album was a huge shock in that it was finished pre coma. Some of the songs seemed like Razah was almost aware that his life could be tested soon. Now nearing the end of 2011, Razah has since began his journey into recovery. He had to relearn how to walk & talk all over again. Last month he and RA the Rugged Man put out visuals to Return Of The Renaissance. A task proven difficult with Razah still in the middle of his recovery at home. I'm happy to see that he's doing a lot better and shockingly after less than a year of recovery is already working on the follow up to Heaven Razah. Also, he's just put out a new mixtape that is comprised of some leftovers from Heaven Razah 1 sessions and a few other gems featuring the likes of; Killah Priest, Grand Puba, his new group Black W.A.S.P. and even his son Kappo. All Proceeds will be going to his family in the much needed aid to help lessen the financial blow that his medical treatments have incurred.

REUP: Liquid Swords is the second solo studio album by American rapper and Wu-Tang Clan member GZA, released November 7, 1995 on Geffen Records. Recording sessions for the album began mid-way through 1995 at producer RZA's basement studio in Staten Island New York. The album heavily samples dialogue from the martial arts film Shogun Assassin and maintains a dark atmosphere throughout its course, while it incorporates lyrical references to chess, crime and philosophy. Though credited as a GZA album, Liquid Swords features numerous guest appearances from the entire nine piece Wu-Tang Clan.

Upon its release, Liquid Swords peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200 chart, and number two on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. On January 11, 1996, it was certified gold in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album initially received favorable critical reviews for its lyrically complex and musically hypnotic style. Over the years, its recognition has enhanced, with a number of famous publishers proclaiming it as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. In 2007, the Chicago Tribune cited it as "one of the most substantial lyrical journeys in hip-hop history". Along with Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..., Liquid Swords is often cited as the best solo Wu-Tang work. In 2010, GZA and RZA announced that they're working on a sequel to commemorate its 15th-year anniversary.

INFO; 71 Raw is a west coast Wu-Tang affiliate out of southern California. The album features other Wu Tang affiliates such as Beretta 9 and The Black Nights among others. . It definitely has that Wu-Tang sound and feel to it but the flows and tempo is a lot smoother than most of the other Wu-Tang affiliate stuff, I really liked it, had a mid 90's sound to it. This album is by no means a classic or anything like that but it's some pretty nice and solid stuff for nowadays.
