REUP: As the eldest son of the legendary Wu Tang Clan’s, Ghostface Killah; Dennis Ames also known as Sun God was literally born into the hip hop culture. And it was clear that music would have magnetic hold on him from an early age. In fact, he got a taste of his father’s fame at the age of eight, making a cameo appearance alongside his father in the Ironman classic “All that I got is you.” Growing up in the Park Hill section of Staten Island with a wide angle view of the hip hop world; one would assume Sun God would automatically throw himself directly into the realm of rap and immediately follow in his father’s footsteps. However, his first true love was not the microphone but rather the gridiron. Where during his formative years he made a name for himself, and was being groomed for collegiate competition and beyond. Music was always around him and his musical palate grew exponentially with every year, but at the age of 13 he began to seriously dabble with words. And with the encouragement of friends, but most importantly his musical mentor and cousin Y-Million, he honed his skills as a worthy wordsmith. School and football slowly faded into the background as his infatuation with the studio evolved. But it was the tragic death of Y-Million that drove him to his music and the streets for solace. Allured by the very same streets that claimed his musical mentor; Sun God completely abandoned his football dreams and fervently pursued a career in rap. Confident in his craft, at 16 Sun God was asked to join Theodore Unit, at the time a newly forming branch of the Wu Tang Empire led by Wu affiliate Trife Diesel and Ghostface Killah. Soon after Sun God found himself making his debut feature on “Man Up” a track by Ghostface Killah and Trife Diesel, where the father and son set a hip hop precedence as the first father and son pair to be featured on the same song. In the years following his debut Sun God has cultivated a substantial catalogue of songs and features through collaborating with local homegrown artists as well as founding Wu Tang members such as Method Man, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, Cappadonna and many more. International tours and shows baptized him in the fiery grind that is the modern music industry. Never complacent and always an independent thinker, Sun God is currently venturing out on his own as an independent artist. Not turning his back on the Wu Tang brand but instead, choosing to arm himself with the knowledge and experience passed down from hip hop icons to mix with a personality, voice and sound that is all his own. Sun God is now working with like-minded producers and artists who wish to blaze a path for a new generation of legitimate New York hip hop. His first solo EP “Redemption” will be released independently on Sun God Music & Farmasy Paper Records in January 2014. Follow Sun God on Twitter: @SunGodMusic
