INFO: For their sixth studio LP, Late Night Cognac Sessions, Michigan trio Dezert Eez combine the best elements of soulful Boom bap and rugged mafioso Rap to deliver a unique, engaging listening experience.

The trio of Ron O’nill, Nivek, and 5-Star have been steadily dropping impressive projects since forming in 2003, and LNCS may be their finest yet. It’s a tightly constructed, cohesive record that packs insight, bravado, and chilled-out raps into just ten tracks, all of which feature different producers.

Dezert Eez carefully sifted through over 60 instrumentals submitted through various producers within their circle in hopes of curating the perfect sound for their album. “We’re artists so it wasn’t a big deal,” O’nill says of sorting through over 60 submissions in search of the perfect gems. “It was just a matter of making sure the vibe was there throughout the project,” he adds.

The sound of LNCS also pays homage to their influences (Native Tongues, the Wu-Tang Clan) while staying true to their roots. As 5-Star puts it, making the album was “easy for us,” as the trio has invariably supplied “hard lyrics and soulful beats” to their fans.

With regards to their lyrics, Dezert Eez remains potent no matter the topic. The group takes a more introspective posture on the standout “Kerosene Lamps,” alongside frequent collaborator Bronze Nazareth, but they also light up and kick back with Talib Kweli on lead single, “Rolex Dreamin’.” The album’s only other guest feature is Skyzoo—”He is just dope!” Nivek notes—who appears on “Diamond Runnaz.” Another highlight is “Cadillac Seatz,” a fittingly titled joint made for late-night rides.

When asked how they stay creative with nearly 15 years in the game, the answer was simple. “Music is our love,” Nivek says. “It’s what we love to do.” That much is made quite clear on LNCS, a true treat for Hip-Hop heads in 2016.

REUP: This cd is tight, This is Popa Wu's first album, although he doesn't appear on the cd, he produced it with RZA. is a good way for Wu fans to listen to little known Wu Fam artists. the Tracks produced by Buddha Monk Are off the hook(1,6,8,13) wich makes me think to go buy he's solo album. It was good to hear something new from LA Da Darkman. Zu Ninjas and the Manchuz came out with some tight tracks, while O.D.B. was as good as he was on "return to the 36 chambers" with he's group Brooklyn Zu. Meth's lyrics were tight, although the cd says that Killarmy performed a song for this album, i don't see it. Wu fans peep this album is tight. and for those of you who love Wu Tang back in '93 there's a cd coming out that is banging, is from wu fam's Cilvaringz and the cd is called "the killa bee sching" he rocks the old wu sounds that went away in the mid 90's I don't know if the cd will be available in the states

REUP: An introduction from mentor RZA changed the trajectory of the Black Knights’ career. Through the RZA, Rugged Monk and Crisis The Sharp Shooter became friends with John Frusciante. A former member of iconic rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers, Frusciante initially developed a relationship with Rugged Monk. Rugged Monk and Frusciante collaborated, but things changed when Frusciante asked to have Crisis record a song with them. That tune quickly led to recording another. Soon thereafter, Black Knights had an entire album produced by Frusciante. The result, Medieval Chamber, is a sonically stunning collection accented by Rugged Monk and Crisis’ thought-provoking, next level lyrics and Frusciante’s genre-blending beats. “John brings the music and the intelligence side to it,” Rugged Monk says. “This is his first go-round as far as doing hip-hop, but John Frusciante is a very musical guy. The group also has a large number of followers in Da Dirty Clanzmen family and are considered a brotherhood. Da Dirty Clanzmen brings to us an album that was 7 years in the making. The Dirty Truth, a follow up to last year’s X Tape, is a 21 track album in classic Wu-Tang fashion: swordsmen, Friday excerpts, old Channel 5 kung-fu movie interludes and the missing ingredients in NY hip hop: hardcore beats and lyrics. The album comes with an additional 4 bonus tracks. An album that would have made ODB proud. Da Dirty Clanzmen proves that hip hop is NOT dead (as they say in the last track of the album) and is bound to take back the culture and the sound that rightfully belongs to the East Coast.

Track 2 is incorrectly written "Watch Ur Mouf". Track 20 is incomplete, i.e. the last verse from U-God was removed. Track 3 is taken from the forthcoming Raekwon album "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II". Tracks 4, 11, 16 & 23 are taken from the album The Problem. Track 4 is incorrectly written "Break That Break" and is listed as an unreleased song, although it was previously released. Track 11 was listed on The Problem as "Strawberries & Cream" (without Remix part), but it's actually the remix of the song "Strawberries" on Bulletproof Wallets. Track 16 is not the full song, it only has Ghostface and Raekwon's verses, while the original song also had a verse from Eyeslow and a hook by Buddah Bless. Track 23 is actually just an excerpt of the first verse by Method Man, so the verse from the rapper P.I. is missing. Tracks 5, 9, 10, 19 & 21 were previously released on Wu-Tang Clan & Friend: Unreleased. Track 10 is not the complete version, i.e. it only contains U-God's verse, while the full version also had verses from Masta Killa, Buddah Bless and Solomon Childs. REUP: Nightmares That Surface from Shallow Sleep is the first album by American rapper and Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Warcloud, originally released in 2002 as a CD-R by the Skarekrow Music label. It was remastered and reissued in 2006. Production was mostly handled by The Skarekrow, who produced seven tracks, and Item #, who produced five; producers 6 Mil, Halo, Tariq and Uno each produced one. Guest vocal appearances were made by Wu-Tang affiliates Black Knights, Northstar and singer Suga Bang Bang, as well as by Kurupt, Leviathan, Mantra, Onslaut, Sandman and The Skarekrow

INFO: Priesthood is the third studio album by Wu-Tang Clan affiliate and Sunz of Man rapper Killah Priest. He had previously cut ties with the Wu-Tang Clan after problems with its leader RZA, and this album receives no input from them. Priesthood is also Killah Priest's first independent release as his last album, View from Masada sold poorly and he was dropped from his label. As a result, the album received very limited distribution and low sales, though it was well received by critics.
